Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations New fisherie in construction, Taylor TX.

I just read an article of a new facility coming soon to Taylor ,Texas. However it is not fisherie for pond stocking it is larger than that, go figure of all places Taylor, the only fresh water species will be Hybrid Striped Bass. Others will be salt water, artic, or atlantic something of another. Can`t remember actual names. They plan on hireing about 50 people, but has anybody tryed LMB and HSB together in a 1 acre pond? are their problems?. I think someone told me it can be done , one would need tremendous feeding program, any takers? opinions?, thoughts?

Are you sure it's not an indoor aquaculture facility known as an RAS (recirculating aquaculture system). If so it doomed to fail IMHO. Why? Because the capital costs are too high and they are very high risk. No one that I know of in any state has made it profitable long term, and the ones that are doing it now are either subsidized or hanging on by a thread. Just went to a presentation one these systems. Some tweeking still needs to be done to make them profitable.

HSB and LMB are compatable in a one acre pond. Feeding them artificial pellets helps boost growth and carrying capacities of the pond. Bruce has quite a bit of experience raising HSB at higher densities. I am not sure what the largest size they obtained for him; my HSB got to 27" before I renovated the pond.
