I just left the fish farm, however I got something I wasn`t looing for, Rio Grande sunfish, only 20, ANY expert suggestions or knowledge of these fishies? The sales guy said they spawn 3 times a year, reach 1.5 pounds, so I said throw em in. I ended up with 50 rd ear , 20 coppernose and 20 rio grande. I wanted more Coppernose but the size I wanted wasn`t there, I `ll try later, looking for 5-7 inch. But I`m interested in the opinions on this one? How about them Rio Grande`s???

Rio Grande perch are a cichlid, a distant cousin to tilapia. They are native to the Rio Grande River watershed. They don't like cold water, will bite a hook, and are pretty cool fish, not normally for sale from a fish farm. They aren't a typical pond stocking fish, since they are semi-tropical and can't support a predator base by themselves. They are like the sprinkles on the icing of the cake. Enjoy them.

I've got 5 in my water garden(3500 gallons) in Houston. I caught them in a creek behind my house. They are truely beautiful fish!

How about eating the Rio Grande`s? Should I keep them as an Ornamental delight or are they O,k, to Eat as well? Never heard of anybody eating them.
