No, the weed goes dormant and retreats every year away from the shoreline during winter and then returns in spring. I'll drag up a specimen and try to photo as you described. I think there is only one type of submerged weed that has survived the Tilapia and grass carp. Grass shrimp love it, but not sure what they do in the winter months when the weed seems to be dormant.
