I trust everyone had a wonderful Christmas, as we did with family and friends! We actually took some time and ice fished our LMB / BG pond, and did very well. I was very surprised at how well the LMB "gobbled" up our offerings of fathead minnows.

I tend to agree with ML at times on how difficult these fish can be to catch. Not so this past weekend. Excellent opportunity for family and friends to land some nice fish and at the same time practice a little pond management. We removed several smaller Bass (< 13 inch) and admired and released some of the better fish that averaged 2 - 3 lbs.

Enjoy the ice, and the Season!

Ed,

Nice pics, fish, and pond. I have a pic of 17 yellow perch, a largemouth, and a few bluegills that I kept (put back the bigger ones). I just need to coax the wife to download the pic so I can post it!

Wouldn't you know it I released the biggest gills yesterday, and then I got a call this morning by a taxidermist that wanted to buy one along with a perch and bass. Never fails!

Ice is safe but it's thawing along the edges due to rain and mild temps. I was sure glad I was in the shanty yesterday as it rained on and off while I fished!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Ed :

Are you taking guest reservations yet. Great looking pond and fish . I really like the stately old tree in the background. Is it in or out of the water or is that an island ?

Hey guys, thanks for all the nice comments!

Cecil, when I first read your post I thought we might get to see a picture of a 17 inch perch!! Then I read it again. \:\(
Like you, our ice is getting a little "punky" from mild temps.

ewest, actually the large trees (eastern cottonwoods) were left behind when ponds were constructed. They are much easier to remove off the ice later if we so desire. They lose about 75% of their weight a few years later. Also, we generally leave a few trees standing for wild turkey roosting.
