Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Hello to all and 1st question.

Howdy Ya'll!! Yes another Texan. I have been lurking on the side reading and learning alot the past few months. Looking to clean out(dip?)and enlarge a shallow a pond. Can anyone recommend a contractor in or will come to Red River county around Clarksville,TX. I saw soilmovers.com on links. Anyone work with them or know about their work, they are just down the road.

Howdy. Welcome to the forum. I've renovated a couple of ponds myself and if there is anything I can help with, like lessons learned, I'd be happy to do that. Not familar with that specific contractor, however.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your pond renovation. It sounds like you have been giving it some thought . Good idea to get an experienced pond builder/renovator. I suggest you contact Mike Otto and ask him a few questions. He is a forum member. See link/email below.

ML: I have the drive to do it myself but realize it is alot more than just digging a hole, especially with the heavy equip and muck removal. I figure it is worth having a contractor do it right instead of paying for inexperienced mistakes and possibly doing it wrong. Maby after further research I will attempt it or try another pond on the property that needs work after finish the main one.

Mike Otto built a pond for me and I would highly recommend him, if you can get him.

That's certainly a good decision because it is indeed a lot more than just digging a hole. Bob Lusk says a lot of people can dig a hole but very few build a pond.

If you have that interest, then really watch carefully this time around and learn all you can. That is what I did before trying it myself the first time. I can tell you it really is a satisfying thing to do some or all of it yourself, but only after you are prepared to do so. You are taking a very wise approach...tell us how it goes and don't hesitate to ask questions. There is an amazing wealth of knowledge that supports this Forum. Thanks.

Howdy Quigibo, we�re neighbors � our ponds are in Delta County.

If you can�t get Mike Otto, we have the best guy in the County, but he has so much drought related re-work right now that he may be booked up.

He�s going to begin some re-work and maintenance work for us in few days. Our pond is down 3-4 ft right now and he is going to deepen the shallow end of the pond that has been a cattail haven.
