Hi Folks:

This is more just an experiment to see if I can actually post pictures for future reference.

Here is a series of shots combined into one panoramic view of the pond where a small group of us have stocked about 1,400 Rainbows. Area is roughly 3.5 acres, 650 ft x 230 ft average, and up to 25 ft deep ... in most places its about 15 ft.

This pond was a small semi-private sand & gravel pit that was abandoned approximately 50 years ago due to problems with underground springs making it too difficult to keep clear. Over the last 50 years, it has become a full eco-system with freshwater shrimp, caddisflies, dragonfly nymphs, etc. This pond will become "mine" next spring when I sign a lease with the landowner ... 5 years with a second 5 yr option.

The fish seem to be doing well on natural food only .. a test netting last week brought up some very beautiful trout a foot long.

Next spring we'll be installing 2 Koender windmills that we got at a very fair price but need a little TLC to bring them back to full functionality to try and keep the algae growth down a little and overall improve water quality.

Yeah ... took me about 15 tries to get it working ... I hadn't made it accessable to the public.

Looks like it works now though ... all a part of the learning process.

Does anyone know why some pictures are small and some make me scroll horizontlly?
I don't like the really big ones myself.

It all depends on the size of the picture (pixel width, not necessarily related to file size).

I do not have it down to an exact science yet, but I know that if I set my (wife's, actually) digital camera on "Email" quality pics, they will fit in the standard screen width when posting. If I take 5Mpixel quality, they are too wide to fit on one screen, and I have to resize (rescale) them with a photo processing program before posting if I want them to fit.

How big is YOUR lake??

I am a Navy Photographer and deal with this quite frequently. For Horizontals, try starting with 640 wide X 480 high. For Verticals, I just set the height to 500, and that usually works for me.

Doogie is right on the money. 640 wide x 480 hi is the ideal internet "no scroll required" dimension. When using the photo-processing programs, it is a regular option due to popularity. If you right click on the picture, then left click on the properties, you can see the size.
