Ran a secchi test on the lake, around 1:30pm, sunny and dropped the disk on the shady side (took off my polarized sunglasses). Disk visibility greater than 60 inches!
Doesn't surprise me I guess, since the groundwater coming into the BOW is clear as day. Other than wind and few thunderstorms, the last couple of weeks, nothing really stirs up or adds sediment. Again, BOW started to fill early August.
For comparison, I secchi tested the neighboring gravel pit lake, Similar BOW conditions as mine but has been full since early 2000's. Noticed though an irrigation ditch discharge into the BOW that was discharging a heavy load of sediment (chocolate milk appearance) due to recent rain events in the area. But I paddled to the other end of the BOW and approximately of 26" of clarity was observed on the disk.
Didn't get the chance to run an alkalinity measurement.
