The safe levels of total iron, or the various dissolved iron species as it relates to fish in a pond are questions far ABOVE my pay grade!

In my (non-expert) opinion, supplementing your pond with a significant amount of that well water could result in a fish kill.

Do you like the NRCS agent in your county? I bet you could ask him that question, and he could bump it up to a good fisheries biologist at TAMU and get you a good answer.

There are a lot of water wells with hard water in Texas, so I am pretty sure your exact situation has probably been evaluated. (You just need to find the right person with the results and the data for dilution, treatment, etc. to be able to supplement the water level in your pond.)

I am a good enough biologist to know that if the pond goes dry, then the fish will die!
