So my feeders are about to be empty and I'd like to toss in one or two more bags to keep feeding through the rest of this season. I've been feeding aquamax 500 but the feed store I've been purchasing it from is a bit of a drive, not worth it with the price of diesel today. I was checking out Tractor supply and came across their Field and Stream premium trophy fish feed. Its stating 45% protein vs I believe the aquamax is only 41%. All the other stats seem pretty similar. I was wondering if anyone has used this before?

I would try it and see how the fish respond to it. Evidently some reputable producer is making it for F&S and using fish meal as the most abundant ingredient.

Watch for several days how well it flows through your fish feeder.

Interesting possibilities, especially if their feed analysis is accurate.

TSC can be clumsy to deal with on non stock inventory, although in my area of TN it has worked fine for me with Purina MVP purchases.

We feed April Fools to Halloween; I will try a few bags of F&S next Spring.

It looked good so I figured I would give it a try. I'll try to remember to post back and give an update on how the fish respond to it.

It would be very informative to know what raw product feed mill produces the Field & Stream premium trophy fish food. And do they only make the multi-size pellet blend?

Agree with Bill - get the ingredients. I did the same as you about 10 years ago (Purina to Tractor Supply) with bad results. Probably a different feed now , so worth a try.

Cargill handles all of the TSC Nutrena fish food, and I may be wrong, but I believe TSC Nutrena handles chicken/goats/sheep , etc. are controlled by Purina. And for the most part, the Nurtrena numbers are lower than most retail fish food. The Field & Stream premium trophy fish food has the same numbers as Cargill, but the food layout is a little different.TSC shows Field & Stream premium trophy fish food also shows all three have crude protein, fat, and fiber. A copy of the bag tag would be a big help.

I reread and chanced TSC Nutrena livestock to TSC Dumor.

Ok, I looked up late last night, and found a few missed up about who owns and does what. Dumor only sells livestock and often carries Purina label on the bag. Nutrena is owned by Cargill but also sells livestock and fish food at TSC. Purina, sells almost everything. Although they may not always be at TSC, they do sell online Purina fish food. If feed stores carry, or order fish food, they sell Purina.

Premium Trophy Fish Feed and Farm and Field are smaller companies and sell online. Premium Trophy Fish Feed and Farm is sold by Field and Stream and has higher protein than Farm and Field.

I get all my fish food from TSC. Where I am, an order of over $50 is shipped free to my door or to the store 4 miles away. I am familiar with Nutrena & all purina products except the Field & Stream Premium Trophy Fish Feed. I can switch Feeds & the BG don't seem to care. Two to four pounds will not last 5 minutes Six to eight & the feeding slows.

I trust Al much more than A I.

Good Information so far about Field & Stream trophy feed. It is interesting the Protein content is 4% more for Field & Stream compared to Purina Aquamax Sportfish. Any Comments why that would be?

On another fish food note:
Purina makes a very high quality protein (56%) powder diet that can be made into a gel. It can then be sliced into pieces or even elongated pieces for feed training difficult to pellet train fish. It works as I have used it.

Ok, so just picked up the feed and loaded it into my feeders. My first observation was that it looked and smelled very fresh, better than some other feeds that I've used. I tossed in a few handfuls, and the fish ate it quickly, wasn't surprised to see that. Some of the pellet sizes are quite large, about 4 times larger than the aquamax I had been feeding. Right now that's my only concern just because my bluegills are all still medium size. Also, it seems like the food is more effective if I'm able to feed and fatten up the smaller bluegills, not so much the larger established ones. I could be totally wrong on that though and they did eat everything I tossed in. My second complaint with the feed is the little pull string to pop the tops off didn't work on either bag.

Crude fat min 12%
Crude fiber max 3%
phosphorus min .9%

As for the ingredients, the first one listed is fish meal, followed by whole wheat, soybean meal and poultry by product meal

Sounds like it is working !

Please make some measurements (metric or english) of the largest pellets or take a close clear picture of the feed on a ruler.
