My pond is much smaller than yours. I put an aerator in last spring to try and reduce the algae. About all it did was to make a hole in the algae about 15 to 20 ft across, not much other effect. Not for a few months anyway.
I think aeration helped the fish, and months after adding the aerator I have less algae, and more fish. I think the fish are eating a lot of algae. The aerator may have helped in the sense that the aeration allowed more fish.
I am in northern Utah, a very different environment from Alabama.
