Ponds accumulate nutrients over time and so that 44 lb biomass will increase over time. On average in an OK climate and land fertility, the accumulation will on average support an additional 30 lbs of forage production each year. So each year if nutrient accumulation is average, a pond will support an additional 15 lbs of BG standing weight and 15 lbs of production in the form of BG consumed by LMB. The increase of 15 lbs of addional consumption will support an additional 3 lbs of LMB.
One approach for one wanting to Limit the accumulation of nutrients but wanting to have greater initial standing weights is to supplement feed to meet the shortfall. Maintaining the productivity would involve reducing the feed annually to compensate for nutrients accumulated. Once the pond has accumulated enough nutrients to support the desired trophic status ... feeding can be curtailed. Nutrients will continue to accumulate, so to maintain that trophic status would require the removal of nutrients in the form of macrophytes or muck.
