I think the rubber membrane diffusers are best - disk or tube style. Each added diffuser results in more water moved per hour assuming each diffuser receives at least around 1cfm of air so it operates efficiently. IMO Rubber membranes are easiest to clean producing good small 1mm dia bubbles.
