Now that we have a pond, when should we put fish in? Obviously the 1st bunch of water will be quite muddy.

What do I look for here? It's nice to have a new problem.

If you have at least half pool and some decent weather left (and are chomping at the bit), you could stock forage species. FHM and Gambusia are pretty cheap, GSH (if you are going that way) not much more. You can see how they do; if the do well, you are in good shape to stock sport fish the following Spring.

NOTE: I am not at all familiar with NM pond weather/seasons.

The pond is at my in-laws in West Tennessee. But the most important goal ws accomplished. My SIL, who owns the property; is super happy.

Yes, FHM and BG minnows are cheap and easily available. A pond fish farm place is about 15 milesaway. I'llgoout in the fall and add some forage.

I just talked with the pond builder. He thinks the deepest part will be 8ft, with lots of it being 6ft. He also added both pea gravel in some large beds; and some wading pools full of sand. I didn't ask for the later, but we'll see.
