We are in a drought (11" below normal for central Virginia).. our last rain was 2 weeks ago. Mostly 80-95 dgrees during the day. My pond is 2 1/2 acres and is stream and spring fed, but it is now low enough that there is no overflow. It now has algae growth, which is normally minimal but more substantial this year.

2 weeks ago yesterday a friend caught 14 nice sized crappie. Last night I went fishing a two of the 3 crappie I caught had this bright red/orange spot underneath and light blue around the mouth and gill. The rest of the fish (1 crappie, bluegill and bass) seemed fine. Is this a result of the algae? Will they recover if we get more rain and the pond flow more freely, or do I just cull them if caught?
