SMB fry will appreciate wood logs/whatever near the spawning beds.

If you have any trimmed/loose branches at the end of Winter, try placing them (butt end out) in the water at the shoreline just after ice out when your YP are big enough to spawn. Maybe your YP will like them better than the "xmas trees" for spawning and you will get to see egg strands from shore. (Note: I tried this for a few years, but my YP always used deep water structure way out in the pond. ) You can take the branches out after spawning season is over, one way or the other.
