Eric, mud is the big issue, but heat didn't help any. Right now is a rough water here for me. The hatchery is muddy, and Todd Overton and I have faced that same issue before and found that bluegill were choking to death because of the huge amount of muddy water also.
We should have moved them a week or two before which would let them go deeper into the cooler water. But, I'm fighting blue/green algae and it's bad too. I've been keeping all the weeds in the big pond to help use up the nutrients, but the bluegill in the big pond are barely feeding and moving also.
Having a 13 acre pond is great for everything but one's pocket.
I thought I was having trouble. Puts my minor problems in perspective. Good luck with the rain and heat. Hope you get a reprieve. I stocked HSB twice. We’ve caught 2 in 10 years. The rest have disappeared. I guess mine sink when they die, or my painted turtles eat them up before I see them.
12 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (decreasing), SMB, and HSB (only two have been seen in 5 yrs) I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023.
Yesterday our friend Emmett brought his two oldest kids, ages 5 and 2, from Indiana for their first time fishing. The kids fished for about two hours (interrupted by a number of adults-get-the-snag-in-the-line-off-of-the-pole episodes) and caught over thirty BG, including seven Emmett took to clean and eat and one big male BG we put back in. A good time was had by all.
Emmett warned the kids "When we fish in the pond in the backyard (of their subdivision home), you won't catch this many."

Finally caught a somewhat pond filling rain for the first time in a year. Caught a few feet of water which makes us only down three feet instead of six feet down.
We spent five days floating in the pond. It was too hot to do much else. Not getting any cooler. I didn’t get a temp, but the surface was pretty warm. Down a foot or so, it was nice and cool. Four grandkids kept the water stirred up.

Good thing you have those grandkids splashing around in your pond ... to disrupt the summer water stratification.
Very true! The old fat man displaces a lot of water but doesn’t stir it up much. Until one of my cross piranha/RES makes his presence known to me. Agh!!!

IMO, one of the best ways to turn a "non-fisherman" into a fisherman, is with heavy topwater action for bass.
Perhaps when you enter a period of good topwater fishing you might try to get your wife to come fish with you!
This trick also works well if you have a child/grandchild that you are also trying to turn into a convert.

It's been a long time since I bought a new rod. I picked a Falcon BuCoo SR carbon fiber rod and tested it out for a bit yesterday. It's truly impressive how light the rod truly is. It feels like it is half the weight of my old rods. Look forward to testing it out more once the heat settles down.

My wife watched me do some top water popper fishing last yr and was extremely impressed with the action, she was wondering why we aren't fishing like that every time, I had to inform her of the period of time that top water works, its not a yr round thing.
It is pretty much the most fun a feller can have fishing, and one of the few times I go after LMB, I spend most of my time crappie fishing.
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.
Hopefully you do NOT have any snakes at your pond large enough to get their mouth around a 1# BG!
YBH are fusiform, and their spikey fins do not deploy when swallowed head first.
Fortunately they do deploy when trying to regurgitate said bullhead. We caught a 24 lb Flathead on a bank pole in the river, that had swallowed a 1+ lb bullhead head first and we landed him without ever having a hook in Flathead himself. the fins deployed and held him for us.

I'm getting to watch a rare August ponds overflowing event. After two years of drought, when the ponds were down 1.5+ feet this time of year, 7.5 inches of rain in 8 days (so far, it's still raining) is different.
