"Unfortunately, one of the major obstacles to successful culture and stocking of crappie is that they have an extremely high reproduction rate, which can lead to overcrowding and stunting in commercial aquaculture ponds and in small ponds used for recreational fishing. To overcome this problem in small fishing ponds, hybrid crappie, a cross between the female black crappie and the male white crappie, has been produced and tested. This cross does reproduce but less frequently than the white or black crappie. This hybrid shows promise for aquaculture because it grows faster than the parental species through the first two growing seasons."

My experience over the past 15 years managing HBCP leads me to suspect they don't "spawn less frequently", rather - it's their offspring SLOW growth rate [which I've witnessed] allowing higher predation rates leading to fewer population management issues. I've collected age 1 HBC that were 2" - still quite vulnerable to predation for several months to come. Conversely, an age 1 pure BCP would likely be 3-5". That slow growth makes a significant difference especially when managing limited gape predator fisheries [SMB, WE, YP].

Considering your desire for RES and YP, SMB serving as apex predator would be easier to manage than other species. I advise researching ancillary forage species such as GSH, PK Shrimp, BNM to help alleviate pressure on RES and YP per Esshup above. Also agree some SMB culling may become necessary. Feed trained SMB would be the best option - but they're expensive and hard to source.
