I asked about 4" LMB fingerlings this Feb. A hatchery worker said theirs were spawn in Dec "25 not spring of '25. They seem to have 4" fingerlings almost year round. Most hatcheries in the area have no fingerlings till late spring & they are quickly gone with no more till the next spring.

What magic is that hatchery working? Why can't? Or don't want to ? The hatcheries do the same to sell 4" LMB fingerlings year round? Was the worker pulling my chain, theirs's were 4" runts from the spring.?

It's possible in South Florida but uncommon. Next time you are there ask them if the bass are spawned and grown indoors or in a pond setting. If you are told that they are grown in a pond they are so full of it the whites of their eyes are brown.

It depends. In much of Fla LMB can spawn 8-9 months of the year based on water temps. With a little manipulation hatcheries can have 4 inch LMB in a few months. It would be unusual for a hatchery in Fla ( mid to south) to have 4 inch fingerlings that were 8-9 mths old. Ask more questions as per esshup's post.
