You can find out how deep the water is there without a boat. Take a slip bobber with a weight that is heavier than the bobber can float. Keep casting to the same place and slowly move the bobber stop up on the line until the bobber barely floats. Then cast it around the deep area to see if there are any deeper holes. Cast out, let the weight hit bottom. Crag closer to you 5'-10'. let the weight hit bottom again. Keep adjusting the bobber stop deeper if needed. Measure it with a ruler when you are pretty sure you found the deepest part.
