ALWAYS REMEMBER that each pond going into winter conditions can be widely different with constantly changing conditions of water quality, amounts of plant growth, accumulated organic materials and types of water clarity. Ponds are collection basins and gradually grow old and the water quality changes as time passes. The harshness of winter conditions can be widely different from year to year for your specific location.

Don’t have to pay the “Dumb Tax” by not being prepared for an extra long harsh winter. This is especially true if your pond has a lot of thick organic muck accumulations and does not have a large area or volume of deep water. Deep water can be your saving grace during harsh winter conditions. Having to replace or rebuild a high quality fishery is not a quick nor cheap endeavor.

It doesn't take much when you do it correctly, Do it wrong and you will be paying the tax man. Then calling the fish man after the ice melts to restock it.
