It's been cold here but nothing really remarkable. Then I was driving by the neighbors' pond and saw something I'd never seen before: at least 20 herons (egrets? storks? IDK) all camped out in the shallow end shoulder to shoulder. I've rarely seen more than one or two together at a time and they usually seem to fight with each other.
Just though it was neat. Hope they don't fly up the road a ways and eat all my fish.
ETA: it's not obvious from the picture but it was mostly whites with at least 3 great blue herons. There were also a few ducks.
