Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain Will BG wipe out FHM?

I had a pond of about half an acre. We drained, killed off the fish, and I stocked it with Rosey Red Fat Head minnows.
Within a relatively short time, the pond was swarming with them. I was feeling pretty good about having a constant supply readily available to stock in other ponds.
Then they started disappearing and wound up disappearing about as fast as they swarmed.
Quickly found out that some green sunfish had gotten into the pond and were wiping them out. And they did wipe them out. Suspect the green sunfish got in there either by swimming up overflow from creek several hundred yards away and probably 50+ feet lower elevation or someone dumping them in. Added some smallmouth bass to the pond. The smallmouth bass survived; but never grew much. Will probably try to do something with the pond this summer. Maybe transplant smallmouth to another pond, drain, and kill off the green sunfish again.
