If you are planting fruit trees (or any mast trees) for wildlife, it is possible to plant several varieties of trees such that they will drop their fruit across a fairly broad range of dates.

For example, people have planted pear, apple, and crabapple varieties such that there is food available on the ground for MONTHS.
