Tried to make it to the pond before sunset today for a little water evaluating but semi failed in my attempt to get there before dark. I did manage to grab a water sample and PH was right at 7.5. 120 GH and 140 KH from the API test kit. I tried to verify this with the LaMotte kit but couldn’t get the water to react to test reagents. Likely time to order a refill for next year.
Just before the trout addition I tried the alum sulfate/hydrated lime to clear the water up. After completing the treatment of (8) alum and (2) lime I found a lot of material in the tank and went back this past Sunday to remix the material in the tote and pump it out into the pond.
Seemed to be fairly successful on the remix. I wasn’t able to get all of it but of the 400lbs aluminum less than 10lbs didn’t mix in the water and ultimately get into the water.
Hydrated lime was much finer overall and much easier to mix.
No further changes or treatments planned for now. Water looks to be in good ranges for the fish.
Looking forward to seeing the water in daylight wand curious if this one will settle out a little bit overnight.
