In Texas, they just announced this season's stocking schedule. I look forward to trout fishing every year. I like fishing when the temps are chilly! This year my son needs his fishing license for the first time and we are going out today for his first fishing license.
You can catch them from shore when the water is ice free. So no problem if you want to enjoy catching them as you can through the cool season. A 5" RBT supplies around 2 days of satiation ration at your current estimated temps (Upper 40s) for a 2.17 lb female LMB. Sooo, if you would enjoy catching a few each week (try to balance the number with the number of your females) and then crippling them before release ... this could help your girls to easy RBT meals about half as frequently as they need them to grow at maximum rates of growth.
When the RBT reach about 1/2 the length of your girls, they may be reaching the limit ability of your girls to swallow them. Although it is fine to release them, I probably would not cripple RBT of this size. Let those be your fish dinners next spring.
