Cool to have found this one from way back; my wife and I are doing the same thing, but much farther south. A 3,000' elevation and quite a few powerful springs makes it possible, though, and we are just about to begin construction on a few different ponds of varying sizes (several drainages fed by powerful springs on our mountain land). I have researched just this kind of water body since I was literally a teenager, and love to hear more about such projects. For spawning, we will have a 3'-to-5'-deep inlet area in each pond with gravel running from pea-size up to fist-size (different species for which we are building prefer different sizes of substrate for spawning) that will have constant flow year-round over it.
I sure hope TroutPonder comes back to report on his results!
