I would add that the well drilling company we used insisted that the pump is better off and maintained more efficiently if it isn't cut on & off constantly.
After some trial and error, we figured out a low and high water mark that has worked well for us. We don't want the pond to get too low, but at the same time we don't want to waste run off out the spillway either if a big rain were to come
