Have epigenetics been covered? I know mammals will express certain genes generationally. Lets say a population of whitetail deer has had 10 generations of poverty. Never enough food and always high stress due to predation. The bucks will still grow antlers, but the genes to grow really large bodies and large antlers will be turned off. Conversely, a population of deer who's had 10 generations of excess food and low stress will measure larger in both aspects. The young are born with those genes turned on.
Do fish exhibit the same? It seems I've read on here that a "stunted" pond is showing this.
