I bought kit on amazon from DC House. .75hp, 550w, 5.7CFM with two diffusers. First issue was the weighted hoses, super cheap and would get hot because the L bracket out of the compressor had it right up against the unit and would get hot and bust. Fixed that by buying a 50' rubber air hose and just used the 3/8 directly, see below, and by the time air gets to the cheap hoses, its cooled off and no issues. However, I built house for the unit, see below, it did NOT work. Got way to hot and overheated. So that was a waste of time. I now have the unit under my RV, out of the rain etc, but with shade and plenty of ventilation. But, based on my surveillance cam at the property, it still must be overheating. I see it on and then every few hours it stops for a bit. Oh, and this might be an issue. one diffuser is at 100' and the other 300' away. If you are wanting to DIY, there is no problem with that, but do NOT try to re-invent the wheel. It will more than likely cost you more in the long run.
1) ALL pre-built kits that come from known good suppliers that have enclosed housings all have a ventilation fan that pulls air into the enclosure. over the compressor and then out of the enclosure. Think computer tower cooling fans on steroids. They are situated so they push air OUT of the enclosure, not push air in.
2) ALL pre-build kits pump to a manifold that has the following:1) Pressure relief valve so excess pressure doesn't damage the compressor 2) Low Pressure Gauge so you can monitor the pressure in the system. (0-30 psi) 3) Ball valves so you can adjust volume of air to diffusers that are placed at different depth in the pond. .
Setting the system up like it is, you have a VERY unbalanced system. One cylinder has a lot more pressure on it than the other. That's a recipe for breaking the compressor. Running 3/8" line 300 feet causes more back pressure than you think. A customer had 3/8" line run and had a leak. We swapped the underground line for 1" and the backpressure dropped by 60%. He still has 3/8" line in the pond.
We sell aeration systems to our customers. We don't DIY it for them, we use either Vertex or Easy Pro systems. That way if something goes wrong there is a warranty. The issues we have had have not been component related. We have had Otters in a pond pull up on the multi diffuser air stations and actually break the plastic manifold. Vertex warrantied it. Had lightening strike near one compressor and that was fixed under warranty too.........
