I am not sure how goggle eye got in my pond but I am glad they are there!! Pond was completed in the summer of 2023, stocked threadfin, copper nose and shell cracker with some fat head minnows that fall. Put in bass last summer in June. I have fought migratory schools of cormorants for two winters and the pond is next to a creek bottom. I think somehow those large schools of cormorants brought them in.

My bass are over two pounds and the big bream are about a pond. The goggle eye are 1 lb and a little more and are great fighters.

Does any hatcheries sell them? If not they should.

Both the Rock Bass & Warmouth are referred to as Google-eye along with a saltwater bait fish.

In Michigan a 'google-eye' is a rock bass (Ambloplites rupestris) also known as a 'red eye' I don't know if they are present in your geographical area though. Pictures would help us make a proper ID

See this link for ID of Rock Bass

We don't have them here that I know of. Based on pics if I'd ever seen one I probably thought it was a hybrid green eared sunfish.

Looks like a warmouth to me. (Non-expert)

Rockbass versus Warmouth

Louisiana is out of the native range for rock bass, but home to native warmouth.

Also, the Louisiana state fishing record for warmouth is listed as: Warmouth, Google-Eye.

If you catch one over 2.13#, run it in quickly to get an official weight - you would have the State Record!

I caught them in creeks as a kid and we called them goggle eye.

I like catching them in my pond---they really put up a good fight and seem bigger than what I remember as a kid.
