A couple of books you just might like to read are What A Fish Knows, the inner lives of our underwater cousins by Jonathan Balcombe, and Why Fish Don't Exist, a story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life by Lulu Miller. The first discusses the many forms of intelligence and senses expressed by fishes. The second is a bit of an historical treatise on the life of David Starr Jordan, a taxonomist obsessed with fishes.
I read these back to back this winter. They have given me a much greater appreciation of what we're dealing with in our ponds and other BOWs.
