Your questions.
Will the trout use that cooler water below the thermocline, or is there not enough oxygen in that depth below say 15' for them during the summer peak? No O2 equals no fish at least not for more than a minute or so. They would likely stay near where the cool water inflows. Aeration may be an option. Rather than bottom aeration of the whole pond you might look into suspended aeration just below the thermocline during summer.
