I had most excellent surprise this weekend....got my boys to help me seine out some Talapia to try to raise in my water garden in backyard over the winter..3500 gallon takes up half backyard in Houston, TX. ....I know they they normally die at 45 degree tempertures...........but i feel like I can run house water to bump temps up and can monitor...anyway......so pumped.............earlier I thought I saw some baby bass........but felt this must be impossbile since bass were stocked at 6-8 inches this May(f/ Mark Overton)...but sure enough we must of caught dozens 2-3 inch bass and this with a 16' net (limited area to seine)so cool...............

I think the spawning habits of newly stocked fish is very interesting. I had BG spawn 3 weeks after stocking. How about this stocking strategy? Stock 20 - 50 8" bass and 60 -100 adult BG per acre in April or May along with a few flat heads,threadfin, or tilapia. If the fish spawned successfully, you could be fishing by the end of the first summer. A whole year ahead of the "tried and true" schedule.

This makes me remember back in January we had an unusual warm spell in N.C. I decided to try and catch a fish or two and a friend had talked to me about having a Super Bowl party and frying fish so I thought if I caught any, more for the fry-but anyway I caught a bass in January and while fileting it I noticed it had an egg sack. Is this normal or not?
