cb,

In Northern OK, we began seeing CC in the rocks by the last week of May. By the third week of June, they would be mostly gone. So I think our peak was during the first two weeks of June. If water temp is the primary driver, then that would put initiation at around 72-73 F and peak at around 75-76 F (here using daily average air temperature as the source of temperature). Not sure if that helps but anticipating a little before those temps are reached in your locale and watching a few weeks may help you determine the season there.

Thanks for the response. I have put in several structures for them to spawn in and I think they are appropriate size to spawn but my water is still a little cold. If they spawn I will remove some of the largest ones and then I can move some to neighbors ponds that don't have them

Here in central MO I just cleaned a CC that wasn't far from laying her eggs, they were right at the laying stage, I woulda guessed within a week or so, and our water temps were right at 70 to 72 degrees, if my little rinky dink thermometer is right.

All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.

Channel catfish spawn when the water temperature is between 75° and 85° F (23° to 30° C) with about 80° F (27° C) being optimum. Wild populations of catfish may spawn as early as late February or as late as August depending on the location. The length and dates of the spawn ing season vary from year to year depending on the weather and area, but peak spawning time in Mississippi usually occurs in May.

After the eggs are laid they will usually hatch in 5 to 10 days depending on water temperature. At 78° F (26° C) the eggs will hatch in about 8 days. For each 2° F (1° C) rise in temperature above 78° F, sub tract 1 day, and for each 2° F (1° C) fall in temperature below 78° F, add 1 day to get the approximate length of time required for hatching. Water temperatures below 65° F (18° C) and above 85° F (30° C) will reduce hatching success. Newly hatched fry have a large yolk sac which contains the nourishment they need for the next 2 to 5 days until they are fully developed and are ready to start feeding. After the yolk sac is ab sorbed, the fry take on their typical dark color and will begin to swim-up looking for food.
