I finally got the time and weather to seine my forage pond to replenish the supply of creek chubs for my bass in main pond and to get specimens for positive ID. To my horror I pulled out 17 bass( some in excess of 7# ) and over 30 large crappie.
I tried and tried but couldn't seine a single Creek Chub out. Some SOB that thought he was helping has destroyed the main food source for my LMB. After 43 days of no rains, the stream that I got my original stockings from has gone dry. I'll have to wait for the fall rains to push some more my way.
I guess I might as well attach my former forage pond to the main pond which will enlarge it to 1.75 acres. I have another pond that was just cleaned out and enlarged ( from 1/10 to 1/4 acre) that will become my next forage pond. It will have to wait until spring, but the quaility forage the creek chubs supply will be worth it.
