One blew up on Pop-R and it felt like a stump till it took off running jumped once and threw the hook . That fish was a hog for sure over 8# what a way to end the evening!
I think I have lost more fish from topwater hook sets than any other type of fishing.
I have certainly snagged the most fish on topwater. I have even reeled in fish sideways where they had one hook near their pectoral fin and one hook near their tail. The first time I did that as a little kid, I thought I had a 5 pounder ... it turned out to just be a 1 pounder coming in sideways!
I snagged a 7 lb channel cat in the back once. That was a heck of a fight.
