Not duckweed IMHO - too large, plus I've never seen "spiders" underneath duckweed. Interesting stuff.

I'm going out on a limb and saying it's not duckweed too. I'm betting you are seeing seeds that are floating that sprouted and those "spiders" are the roots. See how the plants change in a week and let us know.

I can't tell from the picture resolution, but is there a chance those are elm seeds that landed in your pond and managed to sprout?

Do you have elms (probably Siberian Elms) near your property? You would see similar "seeds" on the ground near your pond.

(If not even close, then I am well aware that my eyes are no longer 29!)

thanks. We are in Montana so no Elm. We have cottonwood and a variety of Fir, Larch and pine
