anyone ever use 0-46-0 for pond fertilizer? phosphorous is the main thing we need for a plankton bloom so I was wondering if there is any need in having nitrogen?

Have you had your water tested to know which nutrient you are missing?

what test are you talking about. i keep planted fish aquariums and have all sorts of liquid test kits. I know how to test alkalinity in ponds, but have never heard of a nutrient test.

You can test pond water for nitrate and phosphate levels with the correct kit.

Understanding these levels, will help guide you to the correct fertilizer to get a plankton bloom.

In this past thread, Greg Grimes mentions using a 10-52-4 fertilizer and Bill Cody talks about understanding your water to know which variables may affect the result.

Maybe I am overthinking this but I would rather have a wealth of information before I applied fertilizer to ensure I get the proper desired result.

Have used 0-46-0 for years. Best part - or worst part depending on the situation, is no N. Also have used water soluble 10-52-4. Suggest a soil and water test. If you can get a good bloom with 0-46-0 then use it. You can't let it contact the dirt (use platform).
