We have a 50 acre lake as well. If i never see another grass carp it will be too soon. They stripped this lake almost 20 years ago and we still have almost nothing but invasive alligator grass. I have planted a number of desirable natives and they all get eaten if they get near the edge of the wire cage. I'm having a little success with white water lilies, but Illinois pond weed and eel grass disappear overnight. Our other problem is fish getting washed out of the lake on heavy rains. We are going to try fencing the spillway to hold at least the larger fish. We do grow some large bass. We see a double digit fish a few times a year, and 5 to 7 pound bass are fairly common. We have strong bluegill reproduction in all types and we stock 10-15,000 threading just about every year. We fight otters, and flathead and blue cats year around. We also see cormorants, herons, and a couple of eagles that feed on the lake.
