You aren't harassing the birds, you are just taking advantage of all the open water that is available in your pond to drive the RC boat. At least that's the way that I look at it.

BJ Nick: You can get a net that has a larger dia handle, take the end cap off and slide a piece of PVC pipe in the handle (or over the handle).Nut/bolt the two pieces together. Put a pool noodle on the PVC to make it float. You can make the handle as long as you want by putting more PVC/pool noodles on it. I don't glue sections together, but I will drill a hole all the way through the coupling and PVC, then stick a piece of wire through the hole, bending both ends to make sure the coupling doesn't slip apart at a critical moment.
