The pricing I'm getting from my usual farm store options and pond mgmt companies is more than double what it was a few years ago. 25lb bags of 10-52-4 are $56++. Our pond is 10 acres so this gets very expensive.

Any recommendations on alternative sources for fertilizer or alternatives to manufactured fertilizer would be appreciated.

S States offered me the last 30 or so 40lb bags of 20-20-5 for $29 ea. Any thoughts on this would also be appreciated.

Thank You,
Steve G.

Be careful what fertilizer you use. You don't want much of any "P" in there. I'd really recommend getting a water test to determine nutrient levels and alkalinity levels (if you don't know them already) before putting in fertilizer.

If I had to use fertilizer, I'd use this stuff just because it's low in "P" compared to other pond fertilizers. Low P pond fertilizer

How old is the pond?

Trophy Grower Max

Water temp 50"ish.

A few caveats. Without alkalinity over 40 ppm, it ain't gonna work. IF you have any underwater weeds that are growing, that might explode their growth if the bloom doesn't develope and cut off sunlight before they can get tall enough to keep growing.

From a pond mgmt company a few years ago - "slightly acidic, hardness and alkalinity readings suggest medium amount of dissolved minerals." They recommended fertilizing. When I was fertilizing I definitely noticed substantially more fry around the banks. I have a test kit but haven't tested the water myself in 4 yrs.

The pond is 15 yrs old. Fed by a good sized stream and a few springs.

Do you have a constant outflow from your pond?

any thoughts on using the 20-20-5 fertilizer I'm being offered a deal on? Up to this point I've only used 10-52-4 and have had success creating algae blooms.
