Sunil...no, just something I saw on X, but I've experienced it with my Grandson and other kids that visit the ranch.

I envy you guys. All of my grandkids are grown but haven’t spawned enough for me to have fishing partners.

Maybe you haven't provided enough cover for them, or the right kind of cover?

Perhaps some pea gravel in 3-5 feet of water.

My Grandpa was a huge influence on me and I'm sure you have been the same for yours!

My Grandpa is why I have ponds and fish.

My Grandma is why I love eating bluegill.

My grandpa was a key figure in my fishing days as a kid, would bring us kids hooks and bobbers whenever he came to visit, (he lived a good ways away from us) .
My dad was a non fisher, thought it was a waste of time. dont know if he ever caught 5 fish in his life.

Neither my parents or grandparents fished. Dad was military and we moved around a lot. Actually, he didn’t return from WW2 until I was 18 months old. Mom and I lived with grandparents on a farm/ranch in Oklahoma. When he retired we headed to Texas after living on military bases until I was 14 yoa.

Every summer I got sent to the grandparents. Dad figured a boy ought to learn how to work and a farm/ranch was the perfect place to get calluses on the hands. Grandpa fashioned a scabbard on a tractor so I could shoot jack rabbits that ate the crops. I still have that 22 from the early 1950’s. Uncle and neighbors had stock tanks, called ponds here, that I got to fish and at 82 yoa, I’m still fishing small water holes. Gave my bass boat to a grandson over 20 years ago.

About 35 years ago I decided that I needed to buy my own hunting and fishing spot. Being a USAF veteran, I could take advantage of the State of Texas Veterans Land Loan. Bought my 133 acre POS land for $425.00 per acre. All trees and rocks. Had a small 1/4 acre pond about a mile from the house and a spring fed creek. After I paid the place off and got debt free I had the 2.5 acre pond built in a spot that seldom gets rain. I took my Grandfather, the old cotton farmer, to see the place. I asked him what he thought of it. He said “ When the good Lord built the Earth, He had one piece of crap in his hands that He didn’t know what to do with. So, He stuffed it down into one spot and waked away. And dammit boy, you came along and bought it.” I told him that I told the realtors I talked to that I didn’t care what the land looked like as long as it wouldn’t grow cotton.

Scott and Alan have both seen the place and can testify that it won’t grow cotton. But, it does pretty well on oaks, cedars, rocks and Grandkids.When I met Lusk a bunch of years ago, he asked where my land was. I told him. He said that he had been watching that place on TV weather radar and always wondered why the clouds split at that spot. I told him that the sudden elevation change did it. Full pool is a rarity to me.
