In addition to managing Lepomis, I would also like to see how the SAE do in a pond with a crappie population.
If they would devastate the small crappie, yet allow a decent number of large crappie to survive the gauntlet each year, then that could also be a fun and tasty fishery!
Rod, this is where the program began.. The original intent was a fish that is WAE-like in nature but handles more turbid, lower DO, warmer conditions. In every case that was documented the crappie/sunfish present grew considerably adjacent to these stockings. It has become so popular in many impoundments in NE and KS that have low WAE recruitment, they are now being stocked exclusively with SAE.
The big deal for us is that these fish do 3-4 times better in small ponds/lakes than WAE do.
