Use the information in our Common Q&A Pond Archives to do more of your homework. Spend a concerted effort reading and learning from all the excellent and appropriate topics of information for your goals before contracting to build a pond. You dig a hole however you BUILD a pond preferably one that does not leak. Then return for unanswered questions.
Developing the short term and LONG term goals for the pond is the main 1st step. Getting the best pond plans and design is your 2nd project. Then 3nd is selecting the best pond builder and not a pond digger is your 3nd project.

Other things that you should have and read carefully are a few books from the PBoss book store.

Three of the basic books for beginners are:
Just Add Water by long time and excellent pond BUILDER Mike Otto.
Perfect Pond Want One by the Pond Boss himself Bob Lusk
Beyond The Basics - Bob Lusk again discusses and educates about basic successful pond management.

The other books are good. I have all of them for a small part of my pond management education.
The other thing you should do is subscribe to Pond Boss Magazine - money well spent for what you can learn from each issue.
