Agree on BG cannibalism. I guess I listed the other two as I've never heard of BG being able to eat themselves out of or nearly out of existance.
I have never heard of BG being able to eat themselves out of or nearly out of existence either. There are documented cases however where BG alone can cause a complete failure of year class recruitment. It has been studied and I have read at least one study and can point you to it if you are interested in reading it. BG swim up experienced predation in your pond by all the species capable of consuming them. So I figure it wasn't just BG ... but just like you .. a combined predation resulting in what you now observe.
FWIW. I think you were successful in producing a year class of BG ... the evidence is in your trap results. As I understood your observations, you would like to be seeing more of them with some additional smaller sizes also present. I agree that would be good to see.
