I believe I have 3 or 4 kingfishers flying around my pond. I see these same birds every time I go up there and observe them dipping to the waters surface to either grab a bug or a small minnow.

Small, blue with white, very fast and have a long beak

Are they problematic?

I have one Kingfisher that usually hangs out at the pond from spring to fall. I think they are gorgeous and so fun to watch. I marvel at their skill in spotting and catching fish. It seems the one by me mostly takes smaller minnows for an occasional meal and I have no problems with that. They are loud, chatter like crazy but that also helps me know when he/she is back at the pond again which is nice to know.

There must be a nest near by I have never seen a 2nd adult or young kingfisher around our pond.

This year the kingfisher appears to like to perch on my mallard nest tube which gives it a closer vantage point to the water.

I'd say enjoy that you have 3-4 of them.

They're not apt to fly off with trophy bass.

I like watching them fish at my farm.

I think I have only seen the smallish Belted Kingfishers.

I have never seen them eat a wide-bodied fish, such as a juvenile BG. Instead, I have only observed them eating varieties of minnows.

+1 on my little Kingfishers . Wonderful to watch, never seen with a fish over 4" . Not like that piece of ____ Water Turkey that spends 2 weeks each spring , fishing for Rainbows and other fish over 12" .Rates up there with Honey Locust and my tires.
