And our algae has come back. Some of it has that orange tint to it, like last year. So, no swimming. Also, my pond weed tried a comeback. It started around the edges. But I think the large number of crawfish I have has limited its growth.
How is your SMB population after your otter attack?
If you have some hungry smallies in there, I would think they would love to eliminate any crawfish they observe trying to clip your pond weeds. Maybe need a supplemental stocking of SMB?
A little more pond weeds, equals a little less algae. Sorry to hear about the swimming hiatus since now is the warmest water of the year.
We still have a few. I keep restocking YP, as those are my favorites to eat. My brother in law came up and fished last year. He’s a much better fisherman than I am. He caught (and released) 7. Only one was an original stocker. 19”+. The rest were of different lengths from different generations. We still seem to have a strong crawfish population. Easy to net several just dragging a net along the bank. Still seeing some glass shrimp also. I was backup there last week to plant food plots. A rain was forecast so I got everything done. Of course the rain petered out. We got zero. And there’s nothing forecasted for the next few weeks. However, the algae pictured above, was nowhere to be found! So I’ll be swimming again. Last time I jumped in the little HBG/RES cross were pretty aggressive towards every freckle and mole I had. Had to swim in a t-shirt. Water was still pretty cool a foot down.
12 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (decreasing), SMB, and HSB (only two have been seen in 5 yrs) I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023.
