Has anyone ever used a wind generated aerator. I found a couple online and was wondering if they worked well.
Thanks

There are quite a few posts on windmills in the aeration sections. I'm pretty sure I have seen that same picture you link to discussed a least once, but I can't remember what the gist was. Try searching those two sections for you wind aerator by name/description.

Notice that the specifications for this unit states that it produces 0.15cfm. Note the mfg is working on a larger wind aerator. This 0.15cfm compares to the 1.0-1.5 cfm maximum air volume produced by the well known Koenders windmill aerator. 0.15 cfm is 10 (ten) times less air volume than the Koenders unit. These air volumes compare to the 3 to 4 cfm produced by the better rotary vane electric air compressors. Amount of air volume produced is very important for proper pond aeration. Always remember that the volume of air (CFM) determines how many bubbles each diffuser can produce. The more bubbles produced and the smaller the bubbles that are produced the more water that is moved by the bubble plume. Moving the water from bottom to top is the main function or purpose of bottom diffused aeration.

Since this is my aerator, I have to reply. First of all, the 0.15 cfm is actually 0.2 cfm. The Koenders windmill is supposed to put out 1.5 cfm (crunch the numbers on the diaphragm, rpms, etc.) and costs about five or six times as much. Not everyone wants or needs a farm type windmill. This aerator http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7712984701 was designed to require no assembly other than attaching the windmill to a post and attaching the airstone/check valve to the air hose. I have been selling a non-floating version on eBay and elsewhere since June with excellent feedback from customers and only one service failure (a bad pump). The customer reinstalled the new pump himself in about 15 minutes. Watch for larger units in the future, floating "FloatAerators" and another aeration system which will shake up the pond business.
