It might well be time to resurrect an old GSF, HBG, BG thread from the archives. Years ago JHAP and Dave From el Dorado Ca, and sprkplg were the leaders of several discussions, often lively, of the relative merits of the often maligned and under appreciated mutts of the sunfish world that were carrying GSF blood in their veins. I've been missing their contributions to the forum since they fell away from posting years ago. Bill D also had good things to say about his mutt pond.

Yep, those were some good ones to read.
Both for the educational value, AND for the entertainment value!

You can add me to the GSF fan club. When hooked, they make other sunfish look like pansies.
Lusk once weighed in about the green sunfish. He said “How is a fish that only spawns, at best, annually, going to keep up with the booming spawns of bluegills?
I now have an answer for that. I have a small pond a mile from the house; about 1/4 acre. I stocked it with bass, cats, hybrid stripers and bluegills. Inadvertently, I got some green sunfish or hybrids. All this about 40 years ago. With, droughts, floods, Texas summers and cormorants, I now have a pure green sunfish pond. That’s ok. When I go there, I toss in some feed and enjoy them. Had they been bluegills with rolling spawns, I would have quite a few oxygen crashes with no survivors.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
Without a sense of urgency, Nothing ever gets done.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley Rancher and Farmer Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP Grandpa
