Started building my pond one year ago. Caught the first fish today. Haven't had enough time to do much fishing this spring, and haven't had any luck the few times i have. But it finally worked out. Fish were stocked in August. Its awesome to see them grow.

Are those mostly hybrid bluegill?

I'm not great at identifying between the two. But we did stock both hybrid and non hybrid.

We stocked BG, BGxGSF, RES and RESxBG.
How's the feeding going??
T, we are about 2 weeks from having these on beds spawning, I've seen a few displaying and building nests the last several days.

I would say all four sunfish in pics are hybrids. I tend toward all four being BGxGSF, as the light colored fin edges are ubiquitous with them, but I don't ever see that in BGxRES.

I agree with Theo on the ID.

I am NOT an identification expert, but all four of those fish also have "hybrid mouths" rather than BG mouths.

If the hybrids and the pure BG were stocked in roughly equal numbers, then you catching only hybrids does suggest that they are more aggressive/catchable!

Have fun growing out your fish in your new pond!

Feeder is working great. I need to re set it a little closer to the pond. When the wind is in the wrong direction some feed is ending up on the ground instead of the water. But that's an easy fix when i can find time. I caught these about ten minutes after the feeder went off. They were biting on every cast until the sun set then they pretty much quit.

I stocked BGxRESxGSF here too. Should be an interesting mix of patterns.

Too paraphrase Bill Murray, no fish is as lovable as the mutt. smile

Yep, and they will out fight those other ones 100%.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

No bass yet. Caught all these on a worm and bobber. I've been using a small rooster tail also thinking the bass might like that more but no luck yet.

They have a truck load of minnows to eat so when those start thinning out they'll be more frequent on the end of a line.

Yea the water looks like it's boiling when the feeder goes off from all the minnows. Always makes me wonder why a bass would have any interest in my lure with so much to eat. But they should be growing!!

Yep. It does seem slightly unbelievable when you see that many minnows boiling the water, that the bass can clear them out.

However, unless you have very significant heavy cover for your fatheads, the bass are going to make them go extinct in your pond! They are excellent predators, and will eventually reach the point that your lures will look like a tasty snack that will have to tide them over until they can catch a BG for dinner.
